LION HEAD BAROQUE 1/2 VIOLIN, ~1700







Well preserved child's 1/2 size baroque violin, around 1700, still with the original neck, which was extended at the heel for modern playing (can be built back to original baroque style angle), bearing a label: B. Ruggerius Cremonensis. This violin is in playing condition, but there are no strings and no bridge. The lion head beautifully carved, the highly flamed maple two piece back with several repaired cracks, the top with no cracks but with a round insert in the middle of the violin, the flamed sides in good condition. Overall length 54 cm, length of the body 30.8 cm, scale 29.5 cm, top of the body to the middle of the f-hole 17 cm, length of neck from nut to body 12.2 cm, rim 3.3 cm, upper bout 14.8 cm, middle bout 9.8 cm, lower bout 17.8 cm.
